Amanda Skinner

Dr. Amanda Skinner was born and raised in a small town in California. She has had the dream of becoming a veterinarian since a very young age. Growing up she raised a myriad of farm animals to show at the county fair including horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, and goats. Having all those animals meant getting to interact with the local veterinarians, which only grew her curiosity for medicine!

Dr. Skinner attended Fresno State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in animal science. During her time in school she worked at a small animal, as well as an equine veterinary practice to prepare for veterinary school. She also lived in the sheep barn on campus and managed the school herd of around 200 sheep.

She then was accepted to the Kansas State University College of Veterinary medicine and made a big move to the Great Plains to follow her passion! During her time in vet school she was a part of several college clubs, worked for the college’s large animal ICU, and assisted in several research projects within the veterinary school. She graduated veterinary school in 2021.

It was during her time in veterinary school that she met her husband, Brandt Skinner, while doing a research project involving cattle. With her husband being an Oklahoma native, they both landed in Oklahoma following graduation from veterinary school. They now are raising three dogs, a cat, and two horses together, and are expecting their first baby in the fall of 2022!

Before joining the Sunset Veterinary team, Dr. Skinner completed a year-long equine and small animal internship position in western Oklahoma. There she found a deep passion for companion animal medicine and interacting with people who have deep love for their animals.

In her free time, Dr. Skinner enjoys taking her dogs on adventures and to run with their two horses. She also enjoys tooling leather and making fun leather crafts.

Dr. Skinner is very excited to be a part of the Sunset Veterinary community and meeting pet owners that have a passion for their animals’ health and happiness. She truly believes in excellent communication and compassion for owners as well as their best friends! She has a passion for preventative medicine as well as surgery, and will love each pet that walks through the door.
